Primacore Station by Yakul Primacore Station by Yakul
Finally...! This is what i've been working on the last weeks! It was done for the application for Game-Design studies in Berlin. I'm really curious whether they'll like it.
And of course I'm curious whether you like it, too. Tell me what ya think! :)

Actually, there's a not too short story going with this picture. But i'd really like YOU to imagine what has happened there. Where do you think this scenario takes place?

This Image won a DOPE Award recently! Check out the dope award website: [link]

Thanks to `artofkerem for the feature!
And thanks to anyone who likes it and/or posts a comment or any critics here! I really appreciate it :)

Anyone interested in the story and able to understand german language (original) or english (translated by google and corrected by *arphot and me), here it is:

New York, post-nuklear.
Industrienationen ungeahnte Ausmaße an.

Doch
alle wissen, was damals geschah: innerhalb eines Moments wird die Millionen-Metropole New
York dem Erdboden gleich gemacht. Doch was wissen wir eigentlich?

Ich will euch allerdings etwas erzählen, was ihr schon längst hättet erfahren sollen.
vom Netz genommen, hunderte Arbeitsplätze gingen verloren. Primacores Aufgaben wurden auf
andere Energieversorger verteilt.

english:
Anonymous report on the anniversary of May 14th, 2027, when a nuclear bomb detonated in the very heart of New
York and wiped out the lives of 20 million people within seconds.

New York, post-nuclear. In 2024, the world's population reached the 8 billion mark for the first time ever.
Hunger and disease dominate the majority of the planet, poverty rates are unprecedentedly high, even in the rich
Industrial nations. Governments are losing influence, suffering from never-before-known corruption and leveraged by the economy.

For a decade already, there has been an international fight of predominance for the last remaining resources of the earth. By the help of ever larger mercenary armies,
the world economy's biggest trusts constrain their monopolies; their ruthlessness and power they demonstrate in bloody skirmishes for
the remaining natural deposits. The value of human life converges to zero ...

On May 14th, 2027, finally, it comes to escalation. Some saw it and certainly many felt it. Today
everyone's aware of what happened back then: in a moment, the million-metropolis of New
York razed to the ground. But what do we actually know?

Both author and subject of the attack remain unknown. Of course, there have been
many theories and charges who might possibly be responsible, ranging from terrorists that
unfortunately came into possession of a nuclear bomb over various russian
conspirators lacking attention to Chinese Communists longing for global dominance. In fact, however,
noone could be proven guilty in this regard, nor has anyone ever confessed.

Even today, 10 years after the nuclear holocaust, New York is a huge forbidden area
no man is allowed to enter. Apart from the military and a few selected
Scientists no one knows what's happening on the other side of the wall, let alone how it looks there.

Well, I'm not a youngster anymore, and my curiosity in this regard is long gone.
I will however tell you something that you should have been told a long time ago. It might be
the first piece of a probably much more complex puzzle. And I'll do this
in the hope that there's someone out there having the courage to find out the whole truth.
Someone who takes on their opponents, rather than flee from them.

The bomb that hit New York had for a target the headquarters and research laboratory of Primacore, a
multinational power supplier.
Primacore had years earlier been criticized for alleged illegal experiments
with radioactive substances. After an official investigation and the discovery
of precisely such substances, the company was torn apart, their technology and power plants sold.
The lab's subway stations were taken off work, hundreds of jobs lost.

The research continued in secret, however. In the laboratories
a new process of sonoluminescence was discovered that was able to
generate tremendous temperatures. Temperatures that would be high enough to even
generate nuclear fusion.
Two years later, in the night of the 14th May 2027, when the researchers were about to bring off
their work, the city of New York was extinguished and with it, mayhaps, the future of humanity ...

When first time I saw Primacore Station by ~Yakul I remembered The Dark Tower series of Stephen King I've read years ago. On that story there was a world in a parallel universe where the head character Gunslinger Roland living in. A world that is somewhat similar to the Old West but exists in an alternate time frame or parallel universe to ours. Roland exists in a place where ''the world has moved on.'' This world has a few things in common with our own such as towns, cities and train stations. And when I looked to that image I felt like Roland and his companion circle of the three; ''the sailor'' (Jake), ''the prisoner'' (Eddie Dean) ''the lady of shadows'' (Susannah Dean) just walked across and impressed by these plants found a way to grow through the earth of the Waste Lands. Wonderful image. I love the story in the description. I'm a big fan of these kind of post-war/apocalyptic images with a dash of hope for the world's recovery in them. :)

This is impressive looking CG! I love the abandoned post-apocalyptic world feel of the picture, yet still it feels very real.
It reminds me of some of the Half-Life game. I can totally see headcrabs and zombies coming out of the subway in the picture. :fear:

Just wait until our game project has started (or even finished). Perhaps you'll then see something coming outta there. Though it will most likely not be a bunch of zombies ;-)

sehr sehr hübsch, und natürlich congrats to the DD!

This is simply gorgeous, with all of the little details even in the places you can't properly see clearly. And the concept to go with it is one people toy with all of the time, but isn't portrayed as well half the time as it is here. If this was I game, I would play it in a heartbeat.

WOW! I really like the story to go with it!

That would be AWESOME if this becomes a game! It looks like something I would play!

Reminds me of the condemned games (scaryyyyyyyyyiest games I ever played). Probably also one of my most favorite games too. It's story isn't anything like yours, but the art style/ concept seems to remind me. yet your art is also much more brighter/ thoughtful I would say that the other game art <3

Good luck! I hope they enjoy it! I know I do :)
